Woohoo!! Here's the information that I think a lot of you have been waiting for!

The professional {life as art} Workshops launched in 2009 to rave reviews. We solicited feedback from attendees and their response was almost overwhelming. Attendees overwhelmingly gave the workshop 5-stars and heaped praise for our attention to detail, organization and depth of instruction. Many raved that the workshop taught them more in a few days than they had learned in the previous year of study.

Consequently, I’m so excited to announce dates for my professional {life as art} workshop for the first half of 2010! My workshops will run a little differently this year and will be 3 full days of fantastic instruction, yummy food and amazing goodies!  All professional workshops will be limited to 25 people. If these workshops fill, I will add more dates for the second half of 2010. Here are the details:

{life as art} Professional Workshops

  • February 25-27, 2010 in Salt Lake City, UT . . . . Cost: $1100
  • March 25-27, 2010 in Salt Lake City, UT . . . . Cost: $1100
  • April 29-30 & May 1, 2010 in Orlando, FL . . . . Cost: $1300

I’m also excited to announce a 2-day professional lighting workshop. This will be a new workshop that will focus on using lights on location and seriously advanced Photoshop work. It will begin where my professional workshop ends and will only be available to professional workshop alumni and those who own my workshop in a box. Workshop space will be limited to 12 people and promises to be an intimate, hands-on learning experience. Again , if this first lighting workshop fills up, I will add more dates. Here are the details:

{life as art} Professional Lighting Workshop

  • June 11-12, 2010 at my studio in southern Utah County, UT . . . . Cost: $1100

Many have asked about workshops in Europe and Australia for 2010. I don’t have plans to hold another workshop in Europe for 2010, but I might consider adding one in Australia in August if I feel there is enough interest. If you would be interested in attending a workshop in Australia, please email me. I don't have plans currently to offer any beginner workshops in 2010.

Enrollment for all 2010 professional workshops will begin on November 2.

In addition to my in-person workshops, I will also be offering all my professional workshop materials for purchase as the {life as art} Workshop in a Box. The Workshop in a Box will include the {life as art} workshop manual, which is a 230-page textbook of my personal insight into creativity, composition, in-camera technicalities, digital workflow and business strategies. The book is an actual textbook, not just a copy of powerpoint slides and includes hundreds of full color images and illustrations, as well as exercises and worksheets that you can do to practice principles in each chapter. Additionally, the Workshop in a Box includes a DVD of me shooting an engagement session and a family session and explaining how I implement principles outlined in the book. The Workshop in a Box also includes the {life as art} professional CD which has over $350 in templates, actions, business forms and other exciting surprises, all entirely unique from anything on my Flourish Emporium site. The Box will also come with a $50 Flourish Emporium gift certificate, 2-years access to the {life as art} Workshop Forums, as well as vendor gift certificates, information and offers. And it all comes packaged together in a fun metal tin box!

The {life as art} Workshop in a Box will cost $549 but will be offered for the first two weeks for the amazing price of $499. The Workshop in a Box will go on sale on November 9.

Whew! Life is busy and I need to be posting more of what I'm up to! I'm determined to get caught up on posting sessions. So here's an e-session from earlier this summer. There are a lot of images . . . . . there were so many beautiful shots, I just couldn't narrow it down! I could easily post another long string of images from this shoot. We also videoed me doing this shoot and are currently compiling all the footage to include with my workshop materials. It will provide a step-by-step discussion of my set-ups and what I'm trying to accomplish with each shot.

In an interesting side-note, the funniest thing about this shoot . . . . . we realized afterwards, in chatting with the couple, that the groom here is my husband's second cousin. Welcome to Utah.

Okay, so first of all, deciding on a bride was soooooooo incredibly hard. So terribly hard. There were so many entries that moved me to tears. I want to photograph every one of you! My husband and I discussed maybe doing a bridal-palooza or something where everyone would come, but logistically it just isn't feasible.

So after much debate, we've chosen Whitney and Nick to be our ghost town bridal couple. Yay! I want to post more about them and their story, but I'm going to save it until after the photosession, so I can post it all with images. I can't wait for the session. It promises to be truly amazing.

Whew! I'm so sorry to have made some of you wait. Bad timing on my part. We just finished up our final US professional workshop this year, so I've been gone for the last several days. I plan on having info on 2010 workshops posted in the next several weeks. And for all those who ask, we do still have a little room in the London workshop the end of September, so register while you can!

Will you be my bride? Ready for the photosession of a lifetime? Because I'm looking to give away the wedding session of, well, my dreams, haha.

Imagine the scene: a remote ghost town, you in your wedding dress on the grand staircase of an old adandoned hotel, your handsome groom hovering nearby . . . . all brought together with some dramatic lighting and breath-taking composition. If you crave incredible vistas and a location unlike any other, this session is for you!

The winner of this contest will get a full day photosession on-location in an amazing old ghost town, including engagement (if you'd like) and wedding photos of bride and groom together. You will receive all full-res images from the session on CD along with a print release, as well as a print of each art print image I create. I don't care if you are engaged, soon-to-be engaged or if you've been married for 10 years. I just care that you love each other and want to capture the chemistry between you on camera!

So here are the details:
  • To enter, please email me an image of you and your significant other, as well as a photo of your wedding dress (or you in your wedding dress . . . . you get the idea). Also, please tell me why you feel you should win this contest. Send all entries to nichole -at- nicholeV.com
  • This will NOT be a trash the dress session (unless you want it to be, haha!). I will do everything in my power to keep your wedding dress as clean as possible (trust me, despite how my photos look, my bride's dresses rarely if ever get dirty!).
  • The date for the session is flexible and will be done sometime in mid-September or the second week of October, 2009. We'll find a day that works for you.
  • You have to be willing to drive to the location, which is about a 6 hour drive outside of Salt Lake City, UT.
  • As stated above, you will receive a full-res digital copy of every single proof from our session together (which is most likely to be several hundred images). You will also receive a full-res digital copy and print of each art print I create from our session.
  • I reserve the right to choose the couple who I feel will be best suited for the location and my vision for this photosession.
Even if you feel your own wedding dress days are long over, please spread the word to others who you think might be interested. This contest will close on August 26th, 2009.

Whew! Well, I know that I've been seriously MIA lately. I had a fabulous 3-week trip to Australia which included 5 workshops, some unbelievable scenery and even more incredible people. Though cliche, it was truly the trip of a lifetime. More to come about it in the next day or two.

In the meantime, I just have to share my exciting news of the year. I've been keeping quiet about this for forever it seems.  Rangefinder magazine contacted my last year about being featured in the magazine. So I began the process of working with writer Martha Blanchfield who wrote the article. It was fun and somewhat challenging to distill my vision and ideas into just a couple pages, but Martha was just fabulous to work with. I knew that the article was slated to be released in the August 2009 issue, but I was overwhelmed when Bill Hurter (the editor-in-chief of Rangefinder) emailed to let me know that my image would be the cover of the August issue! **squeal**  And even more amazing, the cover is printed dimensionally on Kodak's NexPress digital press, making the texture on the image stand out literally. You have to check it out! I'm so honored by all of it!

Anyway, you can see the August issue online here. You can see the full article here. And here is a larger version of the image on the cover.

Whew! So many amazing things happening in the next month, I can hardly get my head around it all!

I found out last week that I'll be conducting a MasterClass during WPPI next March. I'll be talking about creativity—the skills and methods you can employ to enhance and expand your creativity as you shoot. I'm so honored to be part of WPPI! And even more excited to work with the students who enroll in my class! I believe that registration will open sometime in October, so I'll keep you posted!

And in honor of it all, I had to do a new, more traditional, headshot. So here you go:

Also, I leave for workshops in Australia in about a week. So excited to meet everyone down under! And even more excited for the few surprises I have up my sleeve, haha. The workshops promise to be amazing!

Okay, so determined to post more sessions, so here goes!

Love love LOVED these bridals! Done in my outdoor studio with Harrison the Ford, antique couch and plenty of off camera flash. I shot a 580EX II through an umbrella for most of the images. I so loved that she was game for anything I wanted to do. It was a fabulous time.

Alright, there are a lot of images here . . . . . . too many amazing shots to choose from!

Whew! Thanks if you're still with me! Like I said, just too many great images from this shoot.
